Why is an Underground Storage Tank Inspection Necessary?
Historically, underground storage tanks (USTs) were made of bare steel up until the mid-1980s. Environmental regulations were much less stringent in those times. Today, there are still thousands of gas and diesel stations with old tanks underground. Even modern-day tanks can leak due to faulty installation and inadequate maintenance activity. Moreover, leak detection systems and spill buckets can often fail requiring inspection and service.
Failure to get an underground storage tank inspection can pose risks to human health and create a potential for fire and explosion.
This is why federal regulations and state departments of environmental quality require routine underground storage tank inspection.

Risk-Based Corrective Action for Underground Storage Tanks
Risk-based corrective action (RBCA) describes measures of corrective action that categorize environmental projects according to risk and moves them towards completion using appropriate levels of action and oversight. With our underground storage tank inspection and removal, we employ ASTM standards in creating a framework for implementing an RBCA strategy. Using this process, we can make sound, quick, consistent management decisions for a variety of projects using a three-tiered approach to data collection and site review contained in ASTM’s E1739 standard guide for “Risk-Based Corrective Action applied at Petroleum Release Sites.”
Corrective Action Plans for Leaking Underground Storage Tanks
We create Corrective Action Plans (CAP) to serve as a guide towards putting corrective measures into action. With respect to underground storage tank inspection, we will identify leaking tanks, contaminated soils, and write up a Corrective Action Plan to get the tanks and/or systems serviced or replaced, and the affected soils cleaned.
